Operating construction plant is not easy, plant is being used for a variety of applications, within a variety of environments, on agricultural sites, construction sites, in the high street servicing the the utilities industry and in factories and recycling plants. Operators must be skilled to handle a machine costing anything from a few thousand pounds for a small dumper truck upto tens of thousands of pounds for a large excavator. In additon operators may well be working in very hazardous environments.. Many accidents involving construction plant are reported each year some of them fatal, it is the operators responsibility to drive his machine in his work environment safely and in accordance with the company rules and procedures, however he can only do this if his employer has provided adequate training. In addition employers have a responsibility to ensure that plant is serviced and maintained, that appropriate risk assessments have been carried out and that site operations are properly supervised. |
