Successful crane operator depends on good team work between the crane operator and slinger. In the past no particular skills were required to sling a load, it was a case of any old rope will do and any member of the workforce who happened to be free acted as a slinger. With an ever increasing number of accidents in industry and the cost of moving stores rising yearly, Industry and manufacturers got together with the Health and Safety Executive and the British Standards Institute to produce agreed codes of practice for both slingers and crane operators. The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 and the Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 was passed requiring employers to risk assess crane operations and provide employees involved in such operations with adequate training.. The slingers task is becoming more technical. Special skills are required in order to move loads in what are often hazardous uncomfortable working conditions. Loads are becoming increasingly larger and more expensive. Industrial Training & development have developed training course for all those involved in crane operations. Training criteria is designed to take account of the increasing sophistication of current equipment and the variety of industries in which lifting operations are conducted. We have a dedicated crane training school servicing the needs of the Ministry of Defence and we are able to deliver such training world wide. |
