AIM:   To train delegates in the skills and techniques required, in order that they may safely use dumper trucks in accordance with good practice and health & safety legislation.

Objectives:

  • Prepare and set up their particular excavator.
  • Operate their particular excavator safely
  • transfer and move materials & loads
  • Shut down and secure their particular machine

Course content:

  • Legislative requirements
  • Basic construction and use
  • Basic principles of the power unit and its systems
  • Starting and stopping the power unit
  • Operator maintenance responsibilities
  • Controls and preparation for travel
  • Driving and parking
  • The transfer and movement of materials and loads

Maximum number of trainees:   3 trainees : 1 excavator : 1 instructor

Course duration:  

  • Novice operators           3 day course
  • Experienced operators   1day course
  • Refresher / test             1 day course

Assessment:   Trainees will be encouraged to build their skills by guided practice culminating in a formal practical assessment together with a knowledge paper. The training and assessment complies with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.
